Kalimpong: Beauty, ambition and public service have come together in the journey of Anshika Rai, the Kalimpong-based pageant winner who clinched the Miss India Continent 2024 title and is now pursuing a very different dream—becoming a doctor.

Rai’s rise from the Himalayan town of Kalimpong to the national pageant stage has been marked by determination and persistence. She was also a semi-finalist at Miss Grand India 2024, while her earlier achievements included a Global Award in Mumbai in 2023.

But the glamour of pageantry has not changed her long-term ambition. Rai has continued her studies in the science stream and is preparing for NEET-UG, aiming to enter the medical profession and use her career to serve people, particularly those from underserved communities. Recent reports say she is balancing medical preparation with modelling and pageant-related commitments.

For Rai, becoming a doctor is not simply another career option. Published accounts of her journey say her desire to enter medicine developed after witnessing people struggle during critical health situations. She has expressed an ambition to help underprivileged patients and contribute to better access to healthcare.

That makes her journey unusual in an industry often associated primarily with glamour. While modelling and pageantry have given Rai a public platform, medicine remains the larger personal goal she continues to pursue.

A recent report said Rai is also selective about entering films, preferring to wait for a strong role and the right team rather than rushing into a debut.
