Ayodhya: Security around the Ram Temple in Ayodhya is set for another major upgrade, with Uttar Pradesh approving the procurement of specialised sniper rifles and surveillance equipment for deployment at sensitive installations, including the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi temple complex.
According to reports, the Uttar Pradesh government has sanctioned the purchase of three sniper rifles, costing around ₹10.76 lakh each, along with 14 telescope search mirrors. The equipment is being procured under the Police Modernisation Scheme and is intended for the Uttar Pradesh Special Security Force (UPSSF).
The planned sniper deployment covers several high-security locations besides the Ram Temple, including metro installations, Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) facilities, Lok Bhavan and the Allahabad High Court. The move is part of a wider effort to strengthen specialised weapons and surveillance capabilities at protected sites.
Multi-layered security already in place
The Ram Janmabhoomi complex already operates under a multi-agency security arrangement. The Uttar Pradesh Police says PAC personnel are deployed for perimeter and internal security at sensitive sites, including the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra in Ayodhya.
The CRPF also states that it provides security to the Ram Janmabhoomi Temple complex, along with other highly sensitive religious sites.
Security arrangements have also been reinforced during periods of heavy pilgrimage. During the 2026 Sawan Mela, reports said the temple security operation involved the ATS, PAC, CRPF, local police, bomb-disposal teams, dog squads and intelligence units, with round-the-clock monitoring and quick-response teams kept on alert.
Wider security infrastructure for Ayodhya
The latest weapons procurement comes as Ayodhya’s security infrastructure is also being expanded at the national level. On September 16, the Uttar Pradesh Cabinet approved the transfer of 65 acres of land to the Union Ministry of Home Affairs for establishing a regional National Security Guard (NSG) centre in Ayodhya.
The combination of specialised weapons, surveillance systems and additional central security infrastructure indicates a continued expansion of the security framework around Ayodhya’s strategically important and heavily visited sites.
The sniper deployment is therefore part of a broader security-modernisation programme rather than a standalone arrangement for the temple. The authorities have not publicly disclosed operational details such as the exact positions or deployment pattern of the sniper teams.
