500+ Step Up for Zero Hunger: ESL Steel’s Walkathon Turns Every Kilometre into a Meal

Bokaro: More than 500 people came together in Bokaro on October 2 as ESL Steel Limited organised the #RunForZeroHunger Walkathon, combining fitness, family participation and community service with a powerful message against hunger.

The initiative, organised under the Vedanta Group’s #RunForZeroHunger campaign, saw enthusiastic participation from ESL employees, their family members, senior officials and other participants. The campaign carries a unique social message — every kilometre covered by participants translates into a meal for someone in need, with the contribution supporting initiatives associated with Nand Ghar and animal care.

The morning event began with an inaugural address by Ravish Sharma, CEO & Whole-Time Director, ESL Steel Limited, in the presence of Vedanta Shankar, ASP, Chas (Bokaro), and  Ranjit Yadav, Officer-in-Charge, Siyaljori Police Station. The dignitaries encouraged participants to combine a healthy lifestyle with the spirit of service and collective responsibility.

Addressing the gathering, Ravish Sharma said the Walkathon demonstrated how collective participation could create a meaningful social impact. He appreciated the participation of employees and their families and said the initiative brought together the twin objectives of promoting fitness and contributing towards providing food to those in need.

The event witnessed participation from ESL’s leadership team, Directors, Heads of Departments, employees and their families. Among those present were Shyamlee Minz, CHRO; Prahalad Rawat, CFO; and Sanjay Kumar Sinha, Head-PR & Stakeholder Management, ESL Steel Ltd., besides senior officials and department heads.

The Walkathon concluded at Lal Bahadur Shastri Chowk, where participants paid tribute to former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri and remembered his contribution to the nation.

The event also witnessed a strong sporting performance, with participants from the Security Department taking the leading positions. The participation of youngsters added another dimension to the event. 15-year-old Om Singh, son of ESL employee Shri Prakash Kumar Singh, secured fourth position, while 15-year-old Rupesh Chourasia, son of ESL employee Pannal Chourasia, finished sixth.

The achievements of the young participants highlighted the family-centric character of the initiative and reflected the enthusiasm of the younger generation towards fitness and community activities.

In his closing remarks, Ravish Sharma congratulated the participants and expressed appreciation for the overwhelming response to the Walkathon.

With #RunForZeroHunger, ESL Steel has sought to give a larger social purpose to a simple act of walking. By linking every kilometre to a meal, the initiative underlines how collective action can transform a fitness activity into a meaningful contribution to the community.
