Bokaro, the first-ever city in world chosen for Sports, Health Research

Bokaro Steel City— the first-ever city in the world, has been selected for the Sports and Health Research Programme.

The Association for International Sports for All (TAFISA) collaborated with Global Active Partner City (GAC), Bokaro for Sports, Health and Well-Being Research Programme, funded by Liverpool John Moore’s University (LJMU), UK.

“As of recent developments and communication received from the concerned authorities, India’s First Global Active Partner, City, Bokaro, commendably shortlisted for its exemplary works,” informed Jaideep Sarkar, Lead Officer of GAC Programme Bokaro Steel City.

LJMU, the global research institution for IOC supported Global Active City (GAC) programme, incorporates the GAC Candidate City of Bokaro (India, Asia) across the World for its outstanding performance during previous years for further LJMU-sponsored Research Works.

In this context and due to the pivotal role and dynamic leadership of the newly appointed SAIL Chairman and previous Director-in-Charge of SAIL Bokaro Steel Plant (BSL) Amarendu Prakash and Executive Director (P&A) Rajan Prasad consented with the full-fledged support for this glorious Sports and Health research to be executed in India at Bokaro.

The ED (P&A), BSL at LJMU, has sent an explanatory letter reiterating the university’s commitment to fully funding LJMU’s research projects over the course of three years (36 months), he said.

Bokaro Steel City is a planned city established and maintained by Bokaro Steel Plant (BSL), also well-known as ‘Educational’ and ‘Steel’ hub. It is also an urban agglomeration, a major industrial center, and the fourth-largest city in Jharkhand.

As of recent developments, the proposal has been accepted with great interest by the concerned authorities of Liverpool John Moore’s University UK.

In addition, “The Association For International Sports for All” (TAFISA), an esteemed German-based global organisation supported by the International Olympic Committee (IOC), has also come forward to collaborate with SAIL & LJMU in this salubrious drive to make the citizens & society, healthy, happy, spirited and champion and thereby World at large.

The authorities of LJMU and TAFISA have expressed their willingness to work for the research works in close interaction with SAIL Corporate Office and SAIL Bokaro Steel Management and also predicted that this Research programme will set an example to the third World countries or Low & Middle-Income Countries (LMIC).

The proposed research represents an excellent opportunity to explore the implementation and effectiveness of GAC in Bokaro Steel City. We hope our commitments will aid in fostering cross-sectoral collaborations, further implementation research and enhance the global impact of the proposed research, said Jean Francois Laurent, Secretary General, TAFISA.

Notably, this LJMU Funded Research programme on Health and Sports is strongly incorporated by the United Nations (UN), World Health Organisation (WHO) and International Olympic Committee (IOC) and fulfills the parameters of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDG) 2030 as per the Kazan Action Plan of United Nations and India’s First Global Active Partner City Bokaro has been on the run since 2020-21 with the support of SAIL Bokaro Steel Plant incorporated by Evaleo (A Swiss-based NGO for well-being activities).
