RNS: The Department of Environmental Science and Engineering’s EIACP Program Center (RP) at IIT (ISM) Dhanbad, in collaboration with the Institute’s Horticulture Section, conducted a unique plantation drive on World Nature Conservation Day.
This event, part of the ongoing “Ek Ped Maa Ke Nam” campaign, celebrated the bond between mother and child while promoting environmental conservation.
Under the leadership of Professor Dheeraj Kumar, Deputy Director of IIT (ISM), the drive commenced at the 180 quarters area.
Participants planted a dozen saplings, including Peepal, Mango, Jamun, Teak, and Neem. A total of 35 mother-child pairs took part, each planting a sapling and pledging to protect and nurture it. The drive extended to various locations, including the staff club ground, Scolomin Club, and the Deputy Director’s Bungalow.
The event underscored IIT (ISM)’s commitment to nurturing nature and fostering a sustainable future.
Beside others Prabodh Pandey, Registrar; Professor Alok Sinha, Head of the Department of Environmental Science and Engineering and Coordinator of EIACP (PC-RP); and Dr. Dheeraj Kumar, Horticulture Officer of the institute participated in the drive.
In his inaugural speech, Professor Dheeraj Kumar highlighted the importance of tree plantation in combating global warming and climate change, advocating for a sustainable lifestyle. Additionally, an intensive plantation drive under the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Nam” campaign was organized at the Nirsa Campus of the institute on 13 July, led by Professor Sukumar Mishra, Director of IIT (ISM), during which over 1000 saplings were planted.
