
Dhanbad: The All IITs International Relations (IR) Conclave 2024 was inaugurated today at the TEXMiN Hall of IIT-ISM Dhanbad, marking a key event leading up to the institute’s centenary celebration.
The inauguration was graced by Dr. B. Chandrashekar, Executive Director of EDCIL India, as the chief guest, with Shri Arindam Bhattacharyya, Scientist F at the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, as the Guest of Honour, and Prof. Sukumar Mishra, Director of IIT-ISM.
Organized by the Office of the Dean (International Relations and Alumni Affairs), the conclave brought together delegates from 19 IITs across India, along with representatives from their international offices. This year’s theme, “Study in India,” focuses on three key areas of internationalization: Networking & Support, Internationalisation, and Study in India. Experts from organizations such as DST, ICCR, EdCIL, DAAD, Heritage, and CIPERA are participating in the event, contributing to discussions on global education and collaboration.
In his address, Dr. B. Chandrashekar emphasized the role of EDCIL in facilitating the education of international students in India, particularly through the “Study in India” initiative, which provides essential support for admission processes and visa management.
Arindam Bhattacharyya highlighted various fellowships available to foreign students and discussed the challenges of attracting students from Europe and other Western countries to India.
Professor Sukumar Mishra, in his speech, stressed the importance of a strategic approach to attract international students and faculty. He pointed out that India’s rich knowledge, culture, and heritage are key draws for foreign students, encouraging them to explore the subcontinent during their educational journey.
The inaugural address was delivered by Professor R.M. Bhattacharjee, Dean of International Relations and Alumni Affairs, who described the conclave as a platform for promoting cultural exchange and fostering dialogue among stakeholders, experts, and funding agencies to enhance the internationalization of higher education within the IIT system.
The All IITs IR Conclave 2024 is expected to serve as a significant step in strengthening international collaboration and positioning India as a premier destination for higher education.
