BSL Signs MoU with EESL to Boost Energy Efficiency Under Green Initiative

Bokaro: In a major stride towards sustainability, Bokaro Steel Plant (BSL) has successfully completed a pilot study to replace four defective motors in the RMHP department with energy-efficient motors, under the guidance of Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL).

This replacement has led to significant energy savings and promises a rapid payback period of just over two years.

Building on these promising results, BSL formalized a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with EESL on January 16, marking a key milestone in its ongoing Green Initiative.

The MoU was signed in the presence of C.R. Mohapatra, Executive Director (Operations), along with senior officials from both BSL and EESL, including Sharad Gupta, Chief General Manager (Maintenance), D. Sarkar, Chief General Manager (Electrical), and Ashish Sharma of EESL.

Speaking on the occasion, Mohapatra highlighted that this MoU will help BSL modernize its infrastructure by replacing outdated, inefficient systems with advanced energy-efficient solutions, including IE3/IE4 motors, leading to long-term energy savings and improved operational efficiency. He emphasized that the partnership with EESL would drive further innovations in energy management technologies.

The event was formally inaugurated via video conference by Venkatesh Dwivedi, Group Executive Director (P&BD) of EESL, who provided an insightful presentation on the various energy-saving products and services offered by EESL, particularly super-efficient motors, which are making significant inroads across public and private sectors, as well as the MSME industry in India.

Sarkar expressed optimism about the collaboration, noting that the combined expertise of BSL and EESL would yield successful outcomes in the future. Lalu Joseph, General Manager (ETB) at BSL, played a key role in coordinating the pilot project and supporting the EESL team throughout the process.
