Bokaro: In a groundbreaking development, Shreshta Chaturvedi, a seventh-grade student at DPS Bokaro, has invented technology that aims to revolutionize water management and help address issues like water scarcity and pollution.
His innovative system, which integrates satellite-based Geographic Information System (GIS) technology with real-time data, promises to improve water distribution, reduce wastage, and monitor water quality effectively.
The system uses cutting-edge tools like Internet of Things (IoT) sensors, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and high-resolution satellite imagery to map and monitor water networks accurately.
The data collected by IoT sensors on water flow, pressure, temperature, pH, and turbidity is analyzed by an AI-powered cloud system, which can predict leaks, optimize water distribution, and even forecast water-related disasters like floods or droughts. This technology can be particularly useful in agricultural, industrial, and municipal water management, ensuring better resource utilization and faster emergency response.
Shreshta’s project, which earned him a place in the prestigious Inspire Standard Award Scheme by the Government of India, has received an initial grant of Rs 10,000 to further develop the system. The project also uses augmented reality to help field engineers detect underground pipeline issues and speed up repairs.
The idea came to Shreshta after observing the challenges posed by inefficient drainage and sewage systems in India. His school teacher, Md Obaidullah Ansari, guided him in bringing the idea to life, with support from school principal Dr. A.S. Gangwar. Shreshta believes that if implemented on a larger scale, his technology could revolutionize water management in India.
Shreshta, who aspires to become a scientist, credits Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, as his role model for innovation in science and technology. Apart from his scientific interests, he is also passionate about music.
Dr. Gangwar praised the project’s potential for environmental protection, emphasizing its role in preventing water wastage and improving disaster preparedness. He congratulated Shreshta on his selection for the Inspire Manak Award and wished him continued success in his future endeavors.
