Vedanta ESL Offers Rs 5 Lakh Compensation, Job Support to Family of Deceased Worker After Protests

Bokaro: Vedanta ESL Steel Plant has handed over a compensation of ₹5 lakh to Anita Soren, wife and legal heir of Maheshwar Soren, a contract worker who was found dead near Bhagabandh Adivasi Tola under the Sialjori police station area on Monday night.

The payment followed intense negotiations involving the police administration, local leaders, and agitated villagers who staged a blockade at the plant’s gate for over 10 hours on Tuesday, demanding justice and support for the bereaved family.

Maheshwar Soren, 50, employed through M/s TPL Services Pvt. Ltd., had gone for his shift but never returned. His body was discovered around 11:00 p.m. by villagers, who immediately alerted the police. He was a resident of Sindri in Dhanbad district.

Following discussions, ESL management not only provided the compensation but also announced continued financial support. As the deceased’s dependent is currently a minor, ESL has committed to paying a monthly salary to Anita Soren for the next two years.

The situation was brought under control after intervention by the police and local representatives, with assurances of support and a possible job arrangement for the next of kin. The plant has not issued further details on the cause of death, and investigations are ongoing.
