News Desk: The United States has confirmed carrying out a series of “self-defence” airstrikes against Iranian military installations, targeting radar facilities and drone command-and-control centres in Goruk and on Qeshm Island over the weekend, amid renewed tensions in the Gulf region.
According to the US Central Command (CENTCOM), the strikes were launched in response to what Washington described as “aggressive Iranian actions,” including the alleged downing of a US MQ-1 surveillance drone operating in international airspace.
In an official statement, CENTCOM said the operation was “measured and deliberate,” aimed at neutralising threats posed by Iranian military assets. The US military reported that fighter aircraft destroyed Iranian air-defence systems, a ground-control station, and two one-way attack drones that were allegedly threatening commercial and military vessels transiting regional waters.
US officials stated that no American personnel were injured during the confrontation and reaffirmed Washington’s commitment to safeguarding its forces, assets, and maritime interests in the region during the ongoing ceasefire period.

Iran Claims Counterstrike
The latest exchange has further intensified the already fragile security situation in the Gulf. Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed that its aerospace forces struck an airbase allegedly linked to a US attack on a telecommunications facility located on Sirik Island. Iranian authorities portrayed the move as a response to American military aggression.
Kuwait Intercepts Drones and Missiles
Meanwhile, the regional fallout appeared to spread beyond Iran and the United States. Reports from Kuwait’s state-run KUNA news agency indicated that Kuwaiti air-defence systems successfully intercepted and repelled multiple drone and missile threats, highlighting growing concerns over the widening scope of the confrontation.

The latest military exchange underscores the persistent volatility in the Gulf, where strategic waterways and military assets remain vulnerable to rapid escalation.
