New Delhi/Jamui: A 17-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped by three men inside Astha Kunj Park near Kalkaji Mandir in South Delhi, after the suspects allegedly posed as policemen and separated her from her teenage male friend, according to police.
The incident occurred on Monday evening after the girl and her 17-year-old friend visited Kalkaji Mandir. After offering prayers, they reportedly went to Astha Kunj Park, located between Kalkaji Mandir and the ISKCON Temple, at around 7.30 pm.
Three men allegedly posed as policemen
According to the complaint and police account, three men, believed to be around 25 to 30 years old, approached the teenagers and allegedly claimed that they were police personnel.
The men allegedly threatened the two teenagers and took the girl towards a secluded part of the park. One of the accused, identified as Asif, allegedly threatened the girl with a firearm and a knife before sexually assaulting her. The other two suspects allegedly assaulted her subsequently, police said. The accused also allegedly threatened the girl and her friend before leaving the area.
A PCR call reporting the alleged assault was received at around 8.45 pm. Police reached the park and the girl was subsequently taken to AIIMS for medical examination. Crime and forensic teams also examined the scene and collected evidence.
An FIR has been registered at Amar Colony police station under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. Police teams were formed to trace the suspects and CCTV footage from the park and surrounding areas is being examined.

One accused arrested after exchange of fire
The investigation took a dramatic turn when police tracked one of the suspects, Asif, to the DM Office Road area of Amar Colony.
Police said that when the team attempted to intercept him, he allegedly opened fire, firing three rounds at the police party. One bullet reportedly struck the bulletproof jacket of Head Constable Rajesh. Police then returned fire, hitting Asif in the leg. He was taken to the AIIMS Trauma Centre for treatment and subsequently arrested, according to officials.
The remaining two suspects are still being traced.
Jamui Incident: Two Minors Attacked and Harassed
The Delhi case comes days after a separate and disturbing incident involving two minors in Jamui, Bihar, where a teenage girl and her male friend were allegedly intercepted and sexually harassed by a group of youths.
According to reports, the two Class 10 students had gone to a scenic location near Mawara/Madwa hillock on September 19 and were returning on a motorcycle when they were allegedly stopped by a group of men. The group allegedly questioned and assaulted them, while the girl was allegedly subjected to inappropriate touching and sexual harassment. The episode was recorded on a mobile phone.
The video subsequently surfaced on social media, triggering widespread outrage. Police said they identified around seven suspects from the footage and arrested three people, while searches continued for others. An FIR was registered under relevant provisions of the BNS and POCSO Act, and a Special Investigation Team was constituted to investigate the case.
Importantly, the Jamui incident should not be described as a gang-rape case on the information currently available. Police and media reports have described it as an incident involving assault, molestation and sexual harassment of minors. The distinction is significant while reporting the case responsibly.
Police also moved against people who circulated the video. Bihar Police registered a separate case against around 120 social-media profiles for allegedly sharing footage that revealed the identity of the minor girl.
Two incidents, one disturbing concern
Although the circumstances of the Delhi and Jamui incidents are different, both cases involve minors allegedly being targeted in public or relatively isolated spaces, with the Jamui episode additionally highlighting the danger of recording and circulating sexual violence involving children.
The Delhi investigation is continuing, with two accused still being sought, while the Jamui case is also under investigation after three arrests and the formation of an SIT. At this stage, allegations against the accused in both cases remain subject to the ongoing criminal investigations and judicial process.
