Chhath Puja Brings Salap Bazar Together in Harmony
Ranjan Shaw I Howrah
Salap Bazar in Howrah came alive with devotion and color as hundreds gathered at Katlia Pokhar ghat to celebrate Chhath Puja — a festival that beautifully blended faith, discipline, and community spirit.
Organized by the Shree Shree Ganesh Puja Committee, this year’s celebration was marked by meticulous arrangements for the devotees. The committee distributed milk, biscuits, and essential medical supplies free of cost, ensuring comfort and safety for all.
Committee Secretary Rajesh Rajak said the festival goes beyond rituals. “Chhath Puja is about service, humanity, and social unity. It reminds us that devotion is incomplete without compassion,” he noted.
Jagatballavpur MLA Sita Nath Ghosh, who graced the event as chief guest, praised the community for upholding tradition with such zeal. “Chhath Puja is not merely a prayer to the Sun God — it’s an expression of gratitude toward nature and a lesson in purity, discipline, and togetherness,” he said.
Local representatives, including Makardah, Gram Panchayat President and Vice-President Mantu Santra, applauded the strong community involvement, stressing that such celebrations strengthen cultural bonds and nurture social harmony.
Behind the scenes, committee member Bikki Jaiswal and his team worked tirelessly to manage security, cleanliness, logistics, and crowd comfort, ensuring the rituals were conducted smoothly. Devotees from nearby villages also joined the festivities, adding to the grandeur of the occasion.
The evening rituals, performed as the sun dipped into the horizon, created a mesmerizing sight — devotees standing waist-deep in water, offering prayers amid hymns and lamps that lit up the ghat with spiritual serenity.
More than a festival, this year’s Chhath Puja at Salap Bazar became a celebration of unity, brotherhood, and civic responsibility. Organizers said such events not only preserve India’s rich cultural heritage but also inspire values of service, empathy, and collective harmony in a fast-changing world.
The 2025 celebration will be remembered not just for its devotion and grandeur but for the way it united people in the true spirit of faith and fellowship
